Natural newborn photos are where it’s at for me these days. It wasn’t always that way though.
Like anything in life, you have to experiment, play and learn to find out what you like.
My first introduction to newborn photography was an Anne Geddes calendar years ago. Remember how she used to pose babies so they looked like sleeping flowers or animals or butterflies? I wonder if she’s still creating images and calendars today…
Nowadays, posed newborn photography is not quite so elaborate. It’s made to look more natural, but still involves intricate details and sometimes complicated poses.
I tried my hand at this for a while but have come to realize that I am definitely not a natural! I have great admiration for newborn photographers that pose babies – they have mad skills! But it’s just not my style.
I find that my photos shine when your newborn is free to just “be.” Sleeping, cuddling, being cozy…in their natural state. Like they say, “Nobody wants to wake a sleeping baby!”
