If you’re searching for the best outdoor photo locations in Calgary, it’s hard to beat the beauty and variety of Fish Creek Park.
Whether you’re planning brand photos, family portraits, or a casual session to capture this season of life, this spot always delivers. With accessible pathways, tall grass, mature trees, and ever-changing light, it’s one of my favourite go-to locations for relaxed, natural-looking photos.
I met up with this lovely family for an evening summer session to document life with their grown kids—who might not be living at home anymore, but are still incredibly close with their parents (and each other). They’re a tight-knit bunch who genuinely enjoy spending time together, and that connection came through in every shot.
We kept things simple and relaxed—walking, chatting, and capturing natural moments as they unfolded. We didn’t even have to venture far from the parking lot! There were plenty of beautiful backdrops just steps away.
So if you’re after a session that’s quick, easy, and sweat-free (no big hikes required!), Fish Creek offers plenty of variety without the extra effort.
The park is also incredibly versatile. Want more of a forest feel? There are tree-lined paths for that. Prefer open meadows and soft, golden light? You’ll find that too.
If you love natural backdrops without needing to leave the city, this place checks all the boxes.
While I specialize in brand photography, I still take on a handful of family sessions each year—mostly in the summer months (because, let’s be real, that just makes sense in Calgary!).
